Selling heat in a hot country like Australia can be a difficult venture. Why, after a hot Australian summer day would you want to wind up a sweat in a Sauna?

In fact, with far infra red saunas,there's no typical heat to contend with - they just don't work like that. Infra Red saunas offer a high tech alternative to traditional saunas with their fire, brimstone and heat rocks.

Traditional saunas (also known as Finnish saunas) operate by the use of hot steam to heat the air inside the sauna while water is thrown on hot rocks or hot elements to increase steam and humidity. The room's walls can be logs or some other material lined with wood. These saunas typically operate at between 180 °F and 220 °F (82 °C to 104 °C).

The aim of traditional saunas is to create a substantial amount of heat and steam, which becomes uncomfortable for a person to endure for lengths of time. This method of sauna in fact does not enable the person to receive the health benefits associated with the infra-red sauna.

Infrared saunas operate without steam, the heat being generated by a ceramic heater. The heater generates radiant energy, like the sun, but without ultraviolet rays that damage the skin. These saunas typically operate between 100 °F to 150 °F (38 °C to 65 °C), the effect being a faster sweat with longer periods inside the sauna. The surrounding air remains unheated while the body receives maximum benefit from infrared heat and sweat.

Infrared saunas are "economically friendly" using 20 percent of the energy to heat the air, with the remaining 80 percent of energy to heat the body.
The units are cost effective at approximately 5 cents per 30 minute session.

Like the Sun, But Unlike the Sun

The sun generates infrared energy that is absorbed by human cells, causing a physical phenomenon called resonance. These rays vibrating at a frequency to that of the human body are able to activate, reactivate and strengthen cells resulting in better blood circulation and improved blood circulatory systems.

The infrared sauna improves circulation and internal congestion by heating the body creating a feeling of well being and maintaining blood circulation.

A survey was done in Germany in 2005 which interviewed 400 sauna owners to find out what they enjoy about saunas - for men, perhaps not surprisingly, the most common response was to "sweat out the toxins from beer/alcohol". Detoxing also rated for the female respondents (#3), but the comments that came in first and second were weight loss (#1) and toning the body (#2). As a recent female correspondent wrote:

"Infrared saunas are different to traditional steam saunas in a lot of ways. But most noticeably by the lack of steam. In fact the heat feels like a dry heat (I can tell because my hair didn’t go frizzy at all) even though you sweat a lot. And wow did I sweat. For the first 20 minutes or so I had a nice little sexy glisten of sweat. By the end of the 45 minutes my body was literally dripping with sweat, which … was no longer sexy at all! Was it uncomfortable? No, because I was in there to sweat out some toxins so was happy that it was actually working.

But the best part was how amazingly good I felt after the session. You know that feeling after you’ve had a long hot bubble bath or a good massage? It was exactly the same feeling as that. I felt happy and relaxed, and to be honest I think it calmed my mind down a little so it must be good at reducing the vata too."
