A Shirt for Sunlight and Moonlight
in Summer, Winter & Beyond

JESS ANDERSON waxes lyrical about her latest fashion item ...
I’ve stumbled upon something which you’ll love … Ollie & Max, a Sydney based fashion label selling modern casual shirts size 8-24.
Somewhere between Ralph Lauren and my boyfriend's favourite shirt, I found the perfect blue stripe women’s casual shirt. Matter of fact, I found a white one too, a black stripe, pink, red … the list goes on.
Longer than the average shirt, tailored on top and loose around the hips, they give a great silhouette on any shape and size. For me the perfect outfit for winter is to wear them with jeans, leggings and boots.
For summer, a skirt, shorts or swimmers are the go. I can’t wait to wear one over a bikini Elle Macpherson style (they even sell the matching panama hat!).
What I love about Ollie & Max is that it appeals to real women. It's a sophisticated style that can be worn every day, and that’s what we’re looking for aren’t we? In this day and age where fashion seems so accessible but really offers slim pickings in the quality and cut stakes, here's a Sydney label with great cut and timeless styles at affordable prices. $65 for a shirt that can be worn all year round is fantastic.
As I mentioned, their garments come in size 8-24, which is proof in the pudding that Ollie & Max are the real thing. As creator Samantha Burns says, “when designing I think about real women with busts, hips, thighs… we are size 8-24, we do have curves so why not offer classic styles for everyday wear that we can all feel presentable and comfortable in”.
It seems Ollie & Max has created the perfect wardrobe basic. A shirt that can have so many looks: worn out, tucked in, tied in a knot or worn as an over shirt. Casual classic, preppy or rock chic. In a great range of classic colours such as blue, white, black, red, pink and stripe to match with a women’s existing wardrobe. In cottons or cotton blends, to suit all climates and to drape beautifully over the body. Most practically they wash well, and in some cases don’t need ironing. Needless to say, they are the ultimate travelling companion.
Samantha Burns does what designers need to do, she listens to her customers. A range of trans-seasonal tunic dresses to mix and match with t-shirts and jackets has flown off the shelves this winter, because the same dresses can be worn in summer with sandals and a hat. The accessories range of scarves (for summer and winter), elasticised belts (for the waist or hip), leggings (again for summer or winter) and hats offers women that additional pick me up for any outfit they might already have in their wardrobe, that extra lift that makes something feel new; or takes an outfit from casual to dressed up.
I also love their organic cotton t-shirt and dress range made from Queensland cotton. These layer easily under shirts and dresses in winter or can be worn by themselves with that ease of fit of a faithful outfit you need on days where only comfort will do.
Ollie & Max also has a focus on ethical manufacturing, requiring their factories to pay fair wages for fair work. The company has a plan to set up an initiative to support the communities of their workers, by investing back into local schooling, health and housing programs.
In a world full of choices it can be hard to choose, so it is a relief to find a business that you can rely on, where choice is easy. Simplest is always best and Ollie & Max does this with style. Shop Ollie & Max worldwide at www.ollieandmax.com.au
